
KATS launched a new pilot program in 2025 called “KATS CONNECT,” an on-demand service through a brand new app called Mobility by Ecolane. New and existing customers within City of Kingsport limits can begin scheduling, modifying, or canceling trips right from their phone. Described as a mix between traditional fixed route bus service and an Uber-type ride-sharing service, on-demand public transit (also known as microtransit) allows travelers to request a shared shuttle via an app called Mobility by Ecolane that picks them up in just a few minutes.
How can YOU access “KATS CONNECT”?
1). Download the Mobility by Ecolane app. Links: Apple App Store or Google Play
2). Create an Account. (must have a valid email)
3). Book a ride by entering your pickup and drop-off address.
4). Pay for your ride when KATS arrives with exact cash, Dial A Ride tickets, or download the Token Transit App to pre-pay. ($3 each way)

What are KATS Connect hours?
Hours of operation are the same as other KATS transit services, Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. 5:00 pm is the cutoff time for trip scheduling availability.
How old do I need to be in order to ride KATS Connect?
18 years or older. Under 18 MUST be accompanied by a paying adult while on board.
How much does it cost to ride KATS Connect?
Fare is $3.00 one way. Drivers do not carry change; therefore, exact change is required. Passengers can also download Token Transit for mobile fare payment. No Reduced Fares Offered. No transfers. Children under age 17 are free with a paying adult. Under 18 MUST be accompanied by a paying adult while on board.
Where can I go and where will I be picked up?
KATS Connect can take you anywhere within the city limits of Kingsport.
What can or can’t I bring on board?
Carry-on items are limited to what you can safely and securely hold on your lap or stow at your feet. Items cannot take up an additional seat, block an aisle, and must be loaded without assistance and in one boarding. Pets are not allowed.
How far in advance can I request a trip?
You may request a trip as soon as 60 minutes from the current time and up to fourteen days in advance. Booking times are subject to availability.
Can I cancel my ride?
Yes. You may cancel through the Mobility By Ecolane app or by calling 423-224-2613. If you must cancel, you must do so no less than 60 minutes prior to your pick-up time to avoid a “no-show”. If you need to edit your requested trip you must cancel first, then request another trip.
No Shows and Suspensions
No-shows are trips that have been scheduled for pick-up at a client’s known address and the eligible rider does not meet the KATS vehicle at the curb in the allotted time frame. If a passenger “no shows” a trip, they will forfeit all scheduled trips and the ability to schedule additional trips on that same day.
